Happy New Year, friends! While I’m still working on my 2019 New Year resolutions post, I wanted to go ahead and bring you this delicious, non-alcoholic drink to kick off my Mocktail Monday series this January.
If you’re like me, you probably had lots of champagne and wine last month – in addition to the holidays, I’m a December baby so the party starts early for me and goes until Jan 2nd, which is my husband’s birthday.
One of my goals this month is to do a physical and mental reset, and it’s a great time to cut back on drinking alcohol. I’m also participating in the Pure Barre Lake Norman challenge of completing 20 classes in the next 30 days, so no hangovers allowed.
This mocktail was inspired by a favorite cocktail of mine at Cannon Green, a beautiful restaurant and bar in Charleston, SC. If you are ever in that area, I highly recommend that you check it out.
I love Spindrift sparkling waters – they are made with real fruit juice, so they have a few more calories than many other sparkling waters (10-20 per can), but I think the extra flavor is worth it. I did make a Rosemary simple syrup for this drink, and I think it really adds something special but if you’re avoiding sugar (Whole 30, etc.) or you just don’t have the time/don’t feel like making it you can muddle some rosemary leaves with the grapefruit juice and still get the rosemary flavor.
Rosemary Grapefruit Sparkler
1/2 Ruby Red or pink grapefruit
1/2-1 teaspoon Rosemary simple syrup (recipe here)
1 can Spindrift grapefruit sparkling water
Directions: Using a citrus press, squeeze the grapefruit sections into a cocktail shaker. Add the rosemary simple syrup (or muddle the leaves from 1-2 rosemary sprigs) and ice – Shake well. Pour into a glass, add your Spindrift grapefruit sparkling water, garnish with a rosemary sprig and enjoy!
Notes: You can add more rosemary syrup if you’d like extra sweetness/flavor. If you chose to muddle the leaves, strain through a fine mesh strainer before pouring into a glass.
Wishing you all a Happy & Healthy 2019!
